Douglas Schwamb's Blackhawk Up piece picks three IceHogs to watch this season: Nick Lardis, Sacha Boisvert and Marek Vanacker.

John Leonard scored three times, including the opener on a 1-on-1 move against Drew Commesso midway through the second period, as the Griffins beat the IceHogs 5-1 at Van Andel Arena on Sunday.

A day after fighting in his first pro game, Blackhawks prospect Ashton Cumby talked with the IceHogs before Sunday's rematch in Grand Rapids about the jump from junior hockey, noting he's gone from facing 16- and 17-year-olds to playing against men.

Grand Rapids scored twice in 35 seconds early in the second period and added a 5-on-3 power-play goal from John Leonard to build a 3-0 lead at the BMO Center on Saturday night.

Rockford's Cumby didn't wait long to make an impression, dropping the gloves in his pro debut during Saturday night's game against Grand Rapids.

Rockford outshot Iowa but couldn't solve Wild goalie Will Rousseau, who made 28 saves in a 2-0 shutout Friday night.

The Blackhawks assigned 21-year-old forward Nick Lardis to the IceHogs on Tuesday, clearing a roster spot ahead of Connor Bedard's return.
